About the Role:
The Customs Specialist is responsible for managing import and export operations, customs compliance, and logistics coordination to ensure the timely and cost-effective movement of goods. This role serves as the primary contact for customs-related matters, working directly with Customs authorities to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and smooth customs clearance processes. The position also covers supplier sourcing, RFQ management, quotation evaluation, cost analysis, and negotiation of logistics and customs-related services, while coordinating with freight forwarders who primarily support transportation execution and document processing.
Role Responsibilities:
Import & Export Coordination
Coordinate with freight forwarders, shipping lines, carriers, and logistics partners to ensure smooth import and export operations.
Monitor shipment schedules, vessel movements, and delivery status, proactively resolving transportation issues when they arise.
Source, evaluate, and manage logistics service providers, customs brokers, carriers, and transportation suppliers to ensure reliable and cost-effective services.
Conduct RFQ activities, compare quotations, perform cost analysis, and recommend the most suitable logistics service providers.
Negotiate rates, service agreements, and commercial terms with logistics suppliers to optimize cost and service performance.
Monitor and control transportation, customs, and logistics-related costs and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Monitor supplier performance and support continuous improvement initiatives with logistics partners.
Manage supplier payments and monitor accounts payable related to logistics and import-export activities.
Stay updated on customs regulations, trade requirements, tax regulations, and import-export policies to ensure compliance.
Customs Clearance Management
Act as the primary company representative for customs-related activities and work directly with Customs authorities to ensure efficient and compliant customs clearance.
Review customs declaration information and supporting documents before submission to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Verify HS codes, customs valuation, certificates of origin (COO), import/export licenses, and other customs documents.
Monitor customs clearance status and ensure timely release of import and export shipments.
Lead communication and coordination with Customs authorities during inspections, audits, reviews, and customs-related investigations.
Coordinate with customs brokers and freight forwarders to support customs clearance and transportation activities.
Support customs audits and post-clearance audits by preparing and providing required documentation and records.
Ensure compliance with customs regulations, trade requirements, and company policies.
Identify and resolve customs-related issues to minimize delays, penalties, and operational risks.
Documentation Control
Prepare, collect, verify, and maintain customs and shipping documentation to ensure compliance and audit readiness.
Maintain accurate records of customs declarations, permits, certificates, transportation documents, and supplier contracts
What you'll need:
College or Bachelor's degree in International Trade, International Business, Import-Export, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Commerce, or a related field.
Minimum 2 years of experience in customs, logistics, import-export, or supply chain operations.
Strong knowledge of customs regulations, import-export procedures, Incoterms, transportation, and international trade practices.
Experience working directly with Customs authorities, customs brokers, freight forwarders, and logistics service providers.
Experience in supplier sourcing, RFQ management, quotation evaluation, supplier selection, and commercial negotiation.
Ability to analyze logistics costs and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Good English communication skills, including communication with overseas suppliers and service providers.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
Strong negotiation, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
